Raja Vijay Bhushan Singh Deo

Born on 11 January, 1926 as the first son of Raja Deo Sharan Singh and Rajya Laxmi Devi and became the king of Jashpur Riyasat only at the age of five in 1931 after the death of his father. After the completion of studies at Rajkumar College, Raipur and Mayo College, Ajmer, he went to Bastar State for administrative skills under the guidance of Mr. A.W. Forbes. After Indian independence, he was elected as first MLA of Jashpur constituency in 1952 elections. Again in 1957, he was elected as member of Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly from Bagicha constituency. He was elected as the member of lower house of Parliament from Raigarh in 1967. From 1970 to 1976 he was elected for the upper house of Parliament. Raja Vijay Bhushan Singh Deo devoted his whole life for the cause of people either by way of politics or as a king. He played key role in the establishment of Vanvasi Kalyan Ashram for the well being of the tribal and local people of the area. Many social reformers like Shri Bala Sahab Deshpande , Shri Meru Bhai Ketkar etc. visited and worked at grass root level for the tribal and rural upliftment. The great king not only as administrator but as the king of heart of peoples of Jashpur left us only at the age of 56 years on 17 August, 1982,
Recognizing his work and sacrifices for the Jashpur and Chhattisgarh, Department of Higher Education, Government of Chhattisgarh by the order number F-5-65/2007/38, Raipur, dated 14/05/2008 has named Govt. Girls College, Jashpur in the honour of Raja Vijay Bhushan Singh Deo as Govt. Vijay Bhushan Singh Deo Girls College. Jashpur.
